The former Minister of Justice, Beketayev, has had his detention extended.

The Prosecutor General's Office has announced the extension of the arrest of former Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev until 10 March.

According to Kursiv.media, the previous arrest period expired on 21 February. In total, Beketayev has been in custody for nearly 1.5 years

“The investigating court has previously extended the detention period for the suspect until 10 March 2025”, the statement reads.

It will be recalled that Marat Beketayev was detained in October 2023. He and the heads of a certain private company are suspected of embezzling budget funds on an especially large scale, fraud, and illegal participation in entrepreneurial activities. The damage exceeded 1 billion tenge.
