The former head of the Green Technology Centre has been sentenced to 9 years for embezzlement and corruption.

The former chairman of the board of the Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects, Olzhas Agabekov, has been convicted of corruption in Astana. At the same time, the Vice-Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mansur Oshurbayev, has been subjected to disciplinary action. 

According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Agabekov was accused of embezzling funds from JSC NC KazMunayGas during the organisation of an environmental event in Dubai. The damage amounted to 121.6 million tenge

In addition, he was suspected of receiving a bribe of 35 million tenge from an entrepreneur, as well as illegally awarding bonuses to senior management totalling 8.2 million tenge.

As a result, Agabekov was sentenced to 9 years in prison with a lifelong ban from holding positions in the civil service.

"On the recommendation of the Anti-Corruption Service, the Vice-Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources has been subjected to disciplinary action in the form of incomplete service compliance", the agency concluded.
