A verdict was handed down in the Specialised Inter-District Criminal Court of the Almaty Region for the former head of the State Institution "Kazselezashchita", Karim Kokrekbayev, his former deputy Adilet Akhatayev, and the ex-director of the branch of the company "Bazis Construction", Andrei Poplavsky.
According to the press service of the region's courts, Kokrekbayev and Akhatayev were found guilty of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale, and Poplavsky of giving a bribe and causing property damage.
The investigation established that the management of "Kazselezashchita", as public officials, entered into a conspiracy and received a bribe on an especially large scale from the company director for the unhindered signing of certificates of completed work.
At the same time, Poplavsky arranged for the signing of certificates of completed construction and installation works, which were not actually carried out. As a result, damage in the amount of 1.9 billion tenge was caused to the state institution.
In the end, the court sentenced Karim Kokrekbayev and Adilet Akhatayev to 12 years' imprisonment, and Andrei Poplavsky to 11 years' imprisonment. The convicted individuals were banned for life from holding positions in the civil service. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
It should be recalled that in July last year, the Almaty Regional Court overturned the acquittal of Kokrekbayev and sent the case for a retrial. Initially, the court acquitted the former head of "Kazselezashchita" and sentenced his accomplices to 11 years' imprisonment.
