Former Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev has been sentenced. This was announced by the official representative of the Anti-Corruption Service, Daniyar Bigaidarov.

According to the press service of the agency, Beketayev was sentenced to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.

"The criminal case against the former Minister of Justice Beketayev was investigated on charges of fraud, embezzlement on an especially large scale, and illegal participation in entrepreneurial activities," the statement reads.

It is noted that because the investigation was carried out under the classification of "secret", all materials of the case and the circumstances of the crime are not subject to disclosure.

Recall, Marat Beketayev was detained in October 2023. He and the heads of a certain private company were suspected of embezzling budget funds on an especially large scale, fraud, and illegal participation in entrepreneurial activities. The damage exceeded 1 billion tenge.

The former Minister of Justice and the consulting group "Bolashak" coordinated Kazakhstan's legal battles with Moldovan oligarchs Gabriel and Anatol Stati.

It was noted that in various years, the Ministry of Justice spent between 22% and 48% of its budget on the litigation against Stati. The FBRK editorial team monitored and published the outcomes of the past court hearings in this high-profile case.
