The trial in Kostanay has concluded for Leila and Khatira Dzhabrailova, who were found guilty of assaulting paramedic Anel Baimurzina after she pronounced the death of their mother. The sentencing was marked by intense outbursts from the defendants.
According to Ratel.kz, the day before the court hearing, the parties held debates in which the defendants insisted on their innocence. The elder of the sisters, Khatira Dzhabrailova, stated in court that she did not take part in the incident, and that her sister Leila had only tried to detain the paramedic, who allegedly intended to steal their mother's identification document.
During the hearing, Khatira Dzhabrailova changed her previously given testimony. She put forward a new version of events to explain her refusal to undergo an expert examination, citing a state of emotional distress.
"Cars with grilles arrived; we thought they were coming for us. Because only a few minutes had passed since we spoke with the investigator. And when the investigator offered to give us a lift himself, we saw he was tipsy and didn't want to go. They did something to cause Mum's blood clot to break loose!", she stated.
The defendants claimed that the paramedic had staged the assault to avoid responsibility for their mother's death.
"I want the court to understand that these injuries came from a blow against a flat, square object. My sister detained her in the way you should detain someone who wants to steal a document. You can see that I am not guilty of anything. My sister was beaten and thrashed. I want us to be acquitted", the report states.
During the reading of the sentencing, the sisters were in the courtroom without their lawyers. Initially, they remained calm, but soon began to voice complaints against the court and the prosecution.
"You were supposed to protect us! And you've all turned against us!", shouted Khatira Dzhabrailova.
Ultimately, the court found the Dzhabrailovas guilty and sentenced each of them to one year of restricted freedom. They are prohibited from changing their place of residence or work without notification, visiting entertainment venues, and travelling outside Kostanay without permission. Additionally, the younger sister must register with the employment service or find a job within a month.
The court partially granted the claim, ordering the convicted women to pay Anel Baimurzina more than 2 million tenge, as well as cover court costs. The seizure of their property remains in place until the sentence is fully carried out. If the terms of the punishment are violated, it may be replaced with imprisonment.
After the hearing concluded, the defendants continued to express their discontent. During a confrontation in the courtroom and the building's lobby, they shouted threats and curses, including nationalistic remarks.
"You were all given a sign, but no one paid attention! I curse you all! My curses are very powerful! You were given a sign we are not guilty! May they all die, along with their families!", the defendants shouted.
At the time of publication, the sentence has not yet come into legal force. The convicted women retain the right to appeal the decision in the established manner.
Recall, last December in Kostanay, ambulance paramedic Anel Baimurzina was assaulted while on a call after she pronounced a patient dead due to respiratory cardiac arrest. As a result of the assault, the paramedic suffered a concussion and haematomas.
