The specialised inter-district criminal court of Almaty has begun hearing new criminal cases against the wife of Kairat Satybaldy - Gulmira. She is accused of illegal imprisonment, extortion and arbitrary behaviour.

According to ORDA, her driver Madi Batyrshayev is also in the dock. It is reported that the media and journalists have been banned from filming the defendants and their lawyers. Gulmira Satybaldy is accused of committing criminal offences under the following articles: Article 126, Part 3, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ('Illegal Imprisonment'); Article 194, Part 4, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ('Extortion'); Article 389, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ('Arbitrary Behaviour'). Madi Batyrshayev is charged under Article 126, Part 3, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ('Illegal Imprisonment').

It will be recalled that the charges became known last year during the trial before Gulmira Satybaldy was sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment for embezzlement and misappropriation of property.

The defendant then stated that she did not admit her guilt. Two other figures in the case — Madi Batyrshayev, who is accused of arbitrary behaviour and kidnapping, and Rashid Utebekov, who is accused of kidnapping — partially admitted their guilt.

Businessmen Tursen Alaguzov and Aigul Mekeshova were recognised as victims of the actions of Gulmira Satybaldy and other individuals. The amount of damage caused amounted to more than 6.6 billion tenge

Incidentally, earlier the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency reported that the department plans to return another 50 billion tenge to the state in the case of the nephew of former president NazarbayevKairat Satybaldy.
