A sentence has been handed down in Karaganda to a senior detective of the Department of the Criminal Executive System (DCES) for the Karaganda and Ulytau regions for torturing a convicted person.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, he was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, torture) and sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. He was also banned from holding positions in the civil service and law enforcement agencies for 3 years.
In addition, the convicted man was stripped of his rank of captain of justice and ordered to make a compulsory payment to the Victim Compensation Fund.
Recall, in August, in the Ulytau region, sentences were passed on servicemen and employees of the Committee of the Criminal Executive System (CCES) for the use of torture. The head of the institution and his deputy were each sentenced to 6.6 years in prison. Five employees of the institution and four servicemen received sentences ranging from 4 to 4.5 years in prison.
In March, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported on the questioning of the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Yerlan Turgumbayev, in connection with the case of the January events.
At that time, it was stated that the supervisory body had evidence in the case regarding the use of torture against detained citizens in a special detention facility located in the village of Koshmanbet, Karasai District of the Almaty region.
Incidentally, in August, a sentence was handed down to Turgumbayev. The case was classified as 'secret'. He was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 362 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Exceeding power or official authority) and sentenced to 5 years in prison with a ban from holding certain positions for 10 years.
Meanwhile, it became known that a former subordinate of ex-Prosecutor General Kairat Kozhamzharov - Kenzhebay Zhumabekov is implicated in a torture case. Shortly before this, it was reported that he had been taken into custody in connection with the 'Khorgos case'.
