A mock trial has been held in the Akmola Region. An employee of the akimat of the Birzhan sal district was convicted of attempted fraud.

"The court heard a criminal case against an employee of the office of the akim of district B. for committing attempted fraud using his official position (Article 24, Part 3, Article 190, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code)", the regional courts' press service reported.

According to the investigation, the defendant demanded 2 million tenge from the manager of a farm in exchange for not filing a lawsuit in court to recover a sum of damages.

It emerged that the akimat employee had no right to take the matter to court due to the statute of limitations having expired. Furthermore, a previous court decision had denied the akimat's claim for compensation for the damage.

It is reported that the accused was arrested while receiving 1 million tenge

The court imposed a fine on him amounting to 7.5 times the value of the stolen property – 15 million tenge – and banned him from holding positions in the civil service for life.

"In order to clarify the legislation and liability for criminal acts, as well as to prevent corruption offences, the sentencing took place with the participation of the akims of rural districts and heads of departments of the office of the akimat of the Birzhan sal district", the courts' press service concluded.

Recall that earlier in the Zhetysu Region, the head of the housing and communal services department of the Sarkand district akimat and the director of a contracting company were convicted of embezzling 74.7 million tenge of budget funds intended for the installation of modular toilets at tourist sites.

In July, the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) launched a pre-trial investigation against officials of the finance department of the Taraz akimat regarding the theft of confiscated property. The amount of damage exceeded 100 million tenge

In April, it became known that the housing and communal services department of the Taraz akimat had unjustifiably transferred 75 million tenge to a contractor for four estimate documents that were never actually prepared.
