The Akim of the Bostandyk district of Almaty, Sanzhar Alin, accused local activist Lyudmila Sengirbayeva of stealing a wallet. The woman was taken to the district police station, had her fingerprints taken, and gave a statement.
According to Bes.media, Sengirbayeva said that the day before, she had come for an appointment with the akim but did not get to see him.
"We were told that he was on a video call with Dosayev (Yerbolat Dosayev – akim of Almaty). We waited for him for more than two hours, since we had signed up for the meeting in advance. Then we decided to make sure he was actually there; together with a staff member from the akimat's HR department, we looked into his office, but he was already gone. He ran off. And today the police came and said he had filed a statement, claiming that I stole his wallet. Now I'm sitting in the police station, a criminal case has been opened against me, and they've taken my fingerprints. I'm giving my statement," said Sengirbayeva.
It is noted that the community activist came to the meeting with the akim as a member of a public oversight commission. She planned to discuss the issue of the lack of water in the Yermensai microdistrict.
"We constantly have no water; we were without water all summer. The Alma cottage town has already been without water, and on 29 October they wanted to cut off the water supply to the Sakura residential complex. There are many problems in our district, so as members of the public, we came to the akim to ask our questions," explained Sengirbayeva.
Journalists tried to contact Sanzhar Alin to get his comments on this matter, but the akim did not answer calls or messages.
