Residents of the Bostandyk District in Almaty are complaining about the felling of trees along Zharokov Street. They suspect it is linked to preparations for the handover of the new residential complex, Etasa Residence.
According to ORDA, the Bostandyk District Akimat stated that the trees were cut down to create an entrance to the residential complex.
“At the specified address, the Department of Ecology and Environment issued a permit dated 23.07.2024 for the felling of seven trees to carry out landscaping works and to organise an entrance and exit to the territory of the multi-apartment residential building,” the statement reads.
The Akimat also promised that the developer would compensate for the felled trees.
“By 25 November 2024, the developer will carry out compensatory planting of 70 seedlings of deciduous species, no less than 2.5 metres in height and with root balls,” the Akimat responded.
Meanwhile, representatives of the developer company deny any involvement in the destruction of the trees.
“We have nothing to do with the cutting down of the trees. This is not a question for us. We have no information on the matter,” the company said.
It is noted that the felled trees were growing along a ditch. Journalists have questioned how the developer plans to organise the entrance and what will happen to the channel.
For the record, illegal felling, destruction, or damage to trees and shrubs carries both criminal and administrative liability.
