A defendant in the case of former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev attempted to falsely pay off a fine.

In September of this year, it became known that a resident of Astana received 10 years' imprisonment for corruption and document forgery. As some media report, this concerned a person linked to Bishimbayev's corruption case.

Recall that in 2018, Mr Bishimbayev, who is currently serving a sentence for murder, was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on corruption charges. The former minister was soon granted parole. At that time, more than twenty other defendants were also involved in this case with him.

One of them – businessman Baurzhan Yesmukhanov – was fined by the court an amount of around 672 million tenge for offering a bribe.

It is reported that in April 2018, a certain Nurlan Suleimenov contacted Mr Yesmukhanov, stating that he could falsely pay off the fine, having connections in the Presidential Administration, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the capital's tax authorities. To do this, one only needed to pay 10% of the total fine amount.

Between June 2018 and December 2020, Mr Yesmukhanov transferred approximately 79.9 million tenge to Mr Suleimenov in two instalments.

In turn, Mr Suleimenov produced and handed over to the convict 8 bank receipts with the stamps of the capital's branch of JSC "Tsesna Bank" and 11 bank receipts with the stamps of the branch of JSC "Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan" totalling 739 million tenge

However, the only genuine receipt is just one – for the transfer of 672,000 tenge.

Nurlan Suleimenov was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment for fraud and incitement to give a particularly large bribe to officials, with confiscation of property – a 2007 Audi Q7. 79.9 million tenge was recovered in favour of the state.

Baurzhan Yesmukhanov's sentence of a fine was replaced with 10 years' imprisonment.

Recall that very recently, for corruption, inspector of the civil and service weapons control group of the police department of the Maktaaral district of the Turkestan region Nursultan Aldabergenov was convicted.
