The Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms has named the regions where livestock numbers were inflated.
According to MIA "Kazinform", across the country, rural akims have revised the information on agricultural livestock numbers, providing up-to-date data from the Electronic Household Register as of 1 January 2024.
"As of 1 January 2024, as a result of updating the data from the electronic household register, the following changes were noted compared to current statistics: the number of cattle, including agricultural enterprises, decreased by 23%, sheep by 14%, goats by 20%, pigs by 34%, and poultry by 22%", said specialists from the Agency.
It is reported that cattle numbers were most inflated in the Turkistan region. Of the 1,021,323 registered head, only 735,300 actually exist there.
In the Almaty and Zhambyl regions, sheep numbers were excessively inflated. In the Almaty region, out of 2,243,131 sheep, 482,402 were recorded falsely. And in the Zhambyl region, instead of 2,755,284 sheep, 3,366,312 were listed.
At the same time, poultry numbers were also excessively exaggerated. During the revision, it emerged that of the 12,904,748 head of poultry that were on paper, only about 8 million actually exist.
For example, in the Kostanay region, out of 2,263,764 head of poultry recorded in documents, only 864,879 actually exist. In the North Kazakhstan Region, documents listed 2,426,790 head of poultry, but upon revision, it turned out that only 808,495 head exist.
The Agency promised that, to obtain real figures in the sector, a large-scale agricultural census will be conducted next year.
According to the agency, the first and only agricultural census in Kazakhstan was conducted in 2006-2007, whereas it is recommended to be carried out every ten years.
"In some countries, such as the USA and Canada, a census is conducted every five years, and in Germany and the Netherlands, every four years. To give the practice of neighbouring countries, in Russia it is every 10 years, while a micro-census is carried out every 5 years", the statement said.
Previously, in his address to the people of Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about how a special commission across the country had identified the absence of 2 million head of cattle and about 3 million head of small livestock in reality. Similar facts were also found in crop production. The head of state instructed that all those responsible be held accountable.
