The Prosecutor General Berik Asylov reported on his work to the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, prosecutors blocked more than 32,000 decisions at the pre-trial investigation stage that contradicted the criminal procedure code, prevented the unjustified involvement of 4,000 people in criminal cases, and released more than 1,500 unlawfully detained citizens.
"Following the protests of the Prosecutor General, the Supreme Court improved the situation of 150 individuals, of which 10 people were fully acquitted", the statement said.
In addition, Asylov reported that in the socio-economic sphere, prosecutors restored the rights of 81,000 entrepreneurs, 979,000 pensioners, people from socially vulnerable groups and other categories of citizens.
"Violations of the labour rights of 123,000 workers were prevented. Alimony debts worth 4.6 billion tenge were recovered for children", the Prosecutor General said.
It was also reported that as a result of the work of the prosecution authorities last year, damages worth over 627 billion tenge were compensated to the state.
Furthermore, Berik Asylov stated that 800 investors, whose contribution to the economy exceeded 12 trillion tenge, received prosecutorial assistance.
"136 officials were held accountable for violations committed. Prosecutors refused to approve 712 decisions of state bodies regarding investors. The effective use of the 'prosecutorial filter' in supporting investment projects was noted. The Digital Investment Platform, which allows tracking the implementation progress of projects from the National Pool, is actively functioning", the statement said.
In addition, the Prosecutor General reported on the progress of investigations into a number of high-profile criminal cases, and also reported on the introduction of digital technologies in the fight against crime, including the use of 'smart' video cameras to apprehend wanted persons.
In response, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed that work continue to ensure the rule of law in all areas. He also noted the importance of coordinating the activities of state bodies in the fight against fraud and drug trafficking, as well as the prevention of offences in public places.
