The Department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) in Almaty has shut down the activities of the financial pyramid scheme "Matic Basket".
According to the agency's press office, the organisers promoted themselves through social networks YouTube, WhatsApp and Telegram, convincing citizens to invest money in the "Matic Basket" project. Investors were promised high dividends from mining and trading on a cryptocurrency exchange.
The size of investments ranged from 5,000 tenge to $1,100. At the same time, documents confirming payment for packages were not issued, and contracts and agreements with investors were not concluded. For each new participant, the organisers promised dividends of 10% on every financial transaction.
As a result, over 1,900 citizens of Kazakhstan and the CIS were drawn into the financial pyramid, investing more than 80 million tenge.
A measure of restraint in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the country has been selected for the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
