Convicted of illegal logging and theft worked at "Semey Ormany"

The prosecutor's office of the Borodulikha district of the Abai region has identified serious violations in the activities of the branch of the Republican State Institution "State Forest Nature Reserve 'Semey Ormany'".

According to the press service of the department, the institution hired people who had previously been criminally prosecuted for illegal logging and theft of another's property. In addition, the branch employed a driver of specialist equipment who had been disqualified from driving.

Furthermore, a production site foreman, previously convicted of property crimes, was overseeing the legality of timber harvesting. The prosecutors also uncovered instances of illegally changing the category of harvested timber to a less valuable one, which led to an undervaluation of the wood.

Due to management inaction and ineffective organisation of work, the enterprise failed to sell more than 4,000 cubic metres of timber worth over 80 million tenge. These funds could have fully covered the branch's tax debt of approximately 75 million tenge.

As a result of supervisory measures, the employment contracts with the offenders have been terminated, the sale of the harvested timber has begun, and steps are being taken to pay off the tax debt.

The branch director was subjected to disciplinary action in the form of a severe reprimand and was dismissed from his post.

Recall that earlier the specialised environmental prosecutor's office identified that the nature reserve "Semey Ormany" had not fully submitted tax information for 2024. Due to the failure to provide information, taxes totalling over 200 million tenge were not paid into the budget.
