In Kostanay, a court ordered the former head of the Basaman forestry institution Asgat Zhakashev to pay 21.4 billion tenge to the state revenue.
According to the press service of the city courts, despite the established ban on people being in the forest fund of the Kostanay region during the fire danger period, Zhakashev illegally allowed private teams to be in the forest and carry out logging.
As a result, in September 2022, a large-scale fire occurred, covering the territory of the Basaman and Semiozerny forestries, as well as the villages of Amankaragay and Ozernoye in the Auliekol district.
The investigation established that the work of the loggers led to a large-scale fire, which damaged flora and fauna, and also destroyed more than 32,000 hectares of forest.
At that time, the Kostanay Regional Court found Asgat Zhakashev guilty and sentenced him to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment with a lifelong ban on holding leadership positions in the civil service.
Now the Kostanay City Court has considered the claim of the authorised body against Zhakashev and his wife for compensation for damage.
The court partially satisfied the claim: it ordered the defendant to pay compensation for damage to the state revenue in the amount of 21 billion 436 million tenge, including to the regional budget – 18 billion tenge and the district budget – 326 million tenge.
"The court considered the request to establish common shared ownership and foreclose on the wife D.'s ½ share to be premature," the statement said.
Let us recall that at the beginning of November, for the fire in "Semey ormany", which resulted in the death of 14 employees of the forest reserve, acting general director of "Kazavia lesookhrana" Talgar Aliyev was convicted. The court ordered him to pay the Ministry of Ecology compensation for the damage from the fire in the amount of 161.5 billion tenge. He also has to pay a state fee in the amount of 4.8 billion tenge.
