A 24-year-old contract serviceman Zhaksylyk Moldakul suffered a severe eye injury during a swearing-in ceremony in the Zhambyl region. According to his relatives, the serviceman was taking part in a demonstration and lost his eye after breaking a bottle over his head. The military unit stated that they would provide the necessary assistance to the victim.
According to Informburo.kz, the victim’s mother, Gulzira Baikonysoba, reported that her son remained on contract service after his compulsory service and supported his family.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred during a physical training demonstration for young soldiers.
After the injury, Zhaksylyk Moldakul was taken to the Zhambyl Regional Ophthalmology Centre. Deputy Chief Physician Zhansaya Sydykova said that medics had performed an initial operation, but further interventions would be required to prevent the damaged right eye from affecting the left one.
At military unit 91/678, where the serviceman serves, they stated that they would provide all necessary assistance to the victim.
According to the contract soldier’s mother, she intends to contact the Ministry of Defence to ensure the incident receives publicity.
As a reminder, in September, a conscript from an airborne assault unit died during routine combat training exercises in the Zhetysu garrison.
The tragedy occurred due to a breach of safety measures when handling a weapon. The soldier sustained an injury incompatible with life.
