In Almaty, the Department of State Property and Privatisation of the Ministry of Finance sold a car, a 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8.
According to Ratel.kz, it previously belonged to former Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Timur Toktabayev, who was convicted of abuse of office.
Despite the starting price for the SUV being 312 million tenge, and appraisers valuing it at 104 million tenge, the car was purchased for 54.7 million tenge. Incidentally, it was previously reported that a similar car of the same year was to be transferred to state organisations via the Electronic Trading Platform.
In addition, it is reported that another car, which previously belonged to Timur Toktabayev, was handed over to law enforcement agencies. This concerns a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S 580 4 Matic. Experts valued it at 79.8 million tenge.
"The listing contained very little information about its condition: 'satisfactory, titanium wheels, non-functioning battery, engine present, spare wheel, no stereo or wheel key, jack and floor mats present, bumpers intact, ignition key present'", the statement reads.
For context, Timur Toktabayev was detained in November 2022 on suspicion of abuse of office. In October last year, he was found guilty and sentenced to 7 years' imprisonment. By court order, his elite private houses, land plots, cars, and shares in commercial organisations were seized.
