A resident of Astana, Maria Rimer, was shocked by the conditions at the City Children's Hospital No. 2. She complains of an infestation of cockroaches, the appalling state of the wards, and the indifference of the medical staff.
According to press.kz, the woman was admitted to the hospital with her son. He underwent an operation there to remove his appendix. The child has a rare genetic condition - Noonan syndrome, which leads to the development of many serious illnesses.
As Maria Rimer tells it, due to her son's illness, they frequently visit hospitals. However, she encountered conditions like those at Children's Hospital No. 2 for the first time.
"The state of the bed linen they gave us in the hospital is, to put it mildly, terrible. The bed is dusty, the chair is all torn, the bedside table is falling apart. Only one out of three lamps works. You can only go into the toilet with a mask because it stinks of sewage. There's a sink in the ward, but the water doesn't drain from it. There are flies buzzing around, and an unpleasant smell coming from the sink", she noted.
According to her, in the ward where she stayed with her son, there were also boys aged six and fourteen. They required constant supervision, but somehow Maria herself had to care for them. She also noted that the institution's staff do not look after the children's play areas, and there are draughts from the windows, causing gusts of wind everywhere.
"In the dining room, the portions of porridge amount to up to four tablespoons. And they didn't bring any bread or tea. They don't give you anything until you ask for it. They themselves insist that you must eat the hospital food, absolutely nothing from the shop, and so on. But how are children supposed to gain strength with food like this?" - the woman wonders.
But the most awful thing she encountered in the hospital was the cockroaches. According to Rimer, they have been living in the medical facility for a long time, which the staff themselves confirmed when they tried to catch them.
"There are children here recovering from operations with open wounds. And cockroaches are crawling on the walls, on the floor, in the bathroom, next to the shower. I caught one in a specimen jar. I filmed a second one on video when it was crawling next to the shower", Maria recounted.
Maria Rimer told all this to the head of the department, Serik Baimuldin. However, he ignored her comments, wondering what business she had concerning other children when she herself was being discharged.
"Despite this, because of my complaints, they brought me new bed linen. I don't need it anymore. I have given publicity to everything that is happening in the hospital, including the situation with the cockroaches, so that children who are lying here alone, without their parents, are not living in such conditions. So that all of this can be sorted out and changed. It shouldn't be like this. I am leaving now, but what about the other children? Who will be responsible for them? Their parents don't even know they are living like this", the woman stated.
In conclusion, Maria Rimer noted that she has no complaints about the treatment, but has many about the living conditions.
