Children of the dungeon: Pavlodar schoolchildren are fed in the basement

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

In Pavlodar, during an inspection of School No. 27, numerous violations were identified. The educational institution was found to be non-compliant with fire safety requirements. Furthermore, it emerged that the school canteen is located in a basement.

This was reported on her Instagram page by Pavlodar City Maslikhat deputy Gulzhaina Darimova.

"Why are the children of School 27 eating in a basement that has no fire exit? There is no renovation. The furniture is terrible; the children are tearing their clothes and tights there. If a fire breaks out, you will bury the children alive there," writes Gulzhaina Darimova.

The deputy also reported that the school has not had a headteacher for 4 years.

"I am curious why they don't appoint a headteacher, instead of having an acting headteacher. When there is no owner, there is no order. It seems to me that we should already appoint permanent headteachers in all schools, not acting ones," shared Deputy Darimova.

A reasonable question arises: surely, in a three-storey educational institution – note, in the regional centre of one of the most industrially developed regions of the country – could no other, more suitable, and most importantly, safe place have been found for the school canteen?
