The management of the "Semey Ormany" reserve has published a notice on the electronic trading platform for the sale of timber.
According to ORDA, these are trees damaged during the fires in June 2023. A total of 51 lots have been listed on the site, with a combined starting price exceeding 4.5 billion tenge.
For example, 1,083 cubic metres of timber are offered for purchase at a starting price of 11 million tenge. For 17,335 cubic metres, the asking price starts at 175.8 million tenge.
It is noted that the auctions will not be for decreasing amounts, but for increasing ones. Thus, the real price of the damaged timber will exceed 4.5 billion tenge.
Recall that in July, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov called illegal loggers "enemies of the state". The head of government instructed strict control over the observance of law and order on the territory of the "Semey Ormany" forest nature reserve, where a major fire occurred in June last year.
It claimed the lives of 14 employees. The fire destroyed more than 63,000 hectares of unique relict pine forest. The damage exceeded 160 billion tenge.
