Not long ago, released from prison, Kairat Boranbayev was re-elected as president of the National Paralympic Committee.
According to Press.kz, the candidacy of the businessman with a criminal record was unanimously approved by representatives of the Paralympic Federation.
"I want to thank everyone who supported me on this day", the businessman wrote.
It is reported that Boranbayev had headed the Paralympic Committee since 2015. He is also the owner of the football club "Kairat".
Incidentally, earlier the Anti-Corruption agency reported that over the past 6 years, 138 billion tenge in sponsorship funds from JSC "Samruk-Kazyna" were allocated to finance 4 professional sports clubs (FC "Astana" - 50.1 billion, HC "Barys" - 48.8 billion, cycling team "Astana Qazaqstan Team" - 31.5 billion, BC "Astana" - 8 billion).
Recall that earlier Kairat Boranbayev was sentenced to 8 years in prison. At the time, the businessman did not admit his guilt, calling the charges brought against him absurd.
Later, the sentence was overturned because Boranbayev eventually struck a deal with the investigation. Media reports indicated that in June of last year, he compensated for material damage amounting to 14.5 billion tenge.
In addition, it was reported that the former in-law of Dariga Nazarbayeva voluntarily returned assets worth over 90 billion tenge to state ownership and transferred 30 billion tenge to the Education Infrastructure Support Fund.
Shortly after this, Kairat Boranbayev admitted his guilt, agreeing to a plea deal with the prosecutor, after which his sentence was commuted to 6 years in prison, with confiscation of property.
Later, the court granted the petition of the businessman and replaced the unserved part of his sentence with restrictions on freedom. At present, Kairat Boranbayev has been released from prison and is under probation supervision.
