In South Korea, an investigative team has requested an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of insurrection and abuse of power. He had previously imposed martial law in the country.

According to Kazinform News Agency, the warrant request was made after Yoon ignored three summonses for questioning.

"The request was submitted to the court at midnight on Sunday (local time), according to representatives of the group, which includes the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), the police, and an investigative unit from the Ministry of Defence", the statement said.

According to the investigation, Yoon Suk Yeol led an insurrection and declared martial law on 3 December. It is also alleged that he ordered the military to be sent to the National Assembly building.

For his part, the president rejected the accusations, stating that the decision to impose martial law was an "act of governance" aimed at preventing the opposition party from abusing legislative powers.

It is noted that on 14 December, 204 of the 300 members of South Korea's parliament voted to impeach Yoon Suk Yeol from the presidency.
