A sentence has been handed down in Astana against the director of a branch of a certain JSC NC, according to a press release from the capital's courts. He was accused of using his official powers to obtain benefits and advantages for himself and others, which resulted in grave consequences for the organisation (Article 361, Part 4, Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan).

According to the press service of the department, while serving as the director of the national company's branch, the defendant arranged for an acquaintance to be appointed as an engineer, even though that person did not actually work.

It became known that the acquaintance, from November 2019 to July 2023, was involved in overseeing the construction of the director's cottage. At the same time, his salary was paid by the branch of the JSC.

As a result of the defendant's illegal actions, the JSC sustained damages amounting to 21 million tenge. The defendant denied his guilt and requested an acquittal.

The court found the branch director guilty and sentenced him to 4 years and 8 months of imprisonment, with a lifetime ban from holding positions in the civil service and in entities of the quasi-public sector.

ORDA, in turn, reports that the convicted individual is the former head of the automation and digitalisation directorate of JSC NC "Қазақстан темір жолы" (KTZ), Salmen Amrin.

Incidentally, on 20 October, a video began circulating online in which Amrin addresses President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and explains how much money the national company is losing due to corrupt schemes.

At the same time, he stated that a criminal case had been opened against him, which he claims was completely fabricated. According to him, the criminal prosecution began after he, along with other employees, exposed corrupt schemes and attempted to draw the prosecutor's office's attention to KTZ's financial losses.
