A new water main in Temirtau was put into operation on 8 January 2026, but less than a week later, the Sotsgorod district was switched back to the old branch due to a burst. The city’s akim Galym Ashimov brought two subordinates to disciplinary account. No public statements from the akim to residents were recorded in the first days after the launch.
PROBLEMS DURING THE WATER MAIN LAUNCH
According to Hronika.kz, after the launch of the new water main, residents of Sotsgorod faced interruptions in water supply. Water with impurities of clay, sand, and fuel oil flowed from the taps. For five days, citizens received no official explanations, and the delivery of drinking water was not organised. A statement to residents was issued by the director of the service provider company «Aquatrading». No public stance from the city akim was presented during this period.
In a response from the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Department, it is stated that the department was not informed about the launch of the new section of the water main on 8 January 2026.
Meanwhile, the Department of Energy and Housing and Communal Services of the City of Temirtau replied that the water quality complies with sanitary standards and is suitable for drinking and household needs. At the same time, it was clarified that the temporary cloudiness of the water after the launch of the new water pipeline is associated with pipe flushing and the disturbance of residual sediments, and this phenomenon is short-term.
DISCIPLINARY MEASURES AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Temirtau Akimat confirmed the presence of a major burst on the new water main, after which the district was switched to the old branch. The following were brought to disciplinary account:
- the head of the State Institution «Department of Housing and Communal Services, Passenger Transport and Highways of the City of Temirtau»;
- the head of the communal sector.
It is not specified what specific disciplinary measures were applied. Information on the possible responsibility of the city akim is not provided in the materials.
