The mayor of the town of Kandyagash in the Aktobe region, Kazbek Akkaiyr, has appeared in court over the assault of a woman with whom he had a personal relationship. The victim is raising three children and works as a nursery school teacher.

According to ORDA, the woman claims she met the official back in 2021. The relationship lasted several years, during which Akkaiyr stated he would not leave his family but would “not hurt anyone”. In December last year, according to the alleged victim, he used force for the first time.

“For the first time in my life, a man raised his hand to me. I was in shock. I really did have injuries. He choked me and punched me. He grabbed me by the neck and dragged me towards the wall,” the woman stated in court.

She added that after the incident, she faced pressure from employees of the akimat and local bloggers, who urged her to drop her statement. According to her, even at work she was warned: “If you need your job, think for yourself — after all, you’re alone with children.”

Kazbek Akkaiyr himself denies the accusations and calls them slander. Employees of the akimat and bloggers were called as witnesses to the court.

It is known that Akkaiyr became head of Kandyagash in July last year and has since received two disciplinary sanctions.
