The Almaty Regional Court has overturned the acquittal in the case of the former head of the State Institution "Kazseleshchita" Karim Kokrekbayev.
According to Informburo.kz, he was accused of receiving bribes on an especially large scale for providing patronage. Alongside him in the dock were his deputy Adilet Akhatayev and the director of the LLP Andrey Poplavsky, who were accused of receiving and giving a bribe.
The specialised inter-district criminal court of the region acquitted Kokrekbayev of all charges brought against him. However, Akhatayev and Poplavsky were found guilty and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
However, a few days ago, the criminal judicial panel of the Almaty Regional Court overturned the verdict of the inter-district court and sent the case for a new trial.
As a result, Kokrekbayev has been taken back into custody, while the preventive measures for Akhatayev and Poplavsky remain unchanged.
It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that Karim Kokrekbayev was accused of receiving a bribe of $800,000. It became known that the second tranche of this amount, $395,500, was received by his deputy Adilet Akhatayev. Also, during the transfer of money, the representative of the contracting organisation LLP "Bazis Construction", Andrey Poplavsky, was detained.
Later, photographs of the arrest of the head of Kazseleshchita appeared online. Among other things, the images showed a large sum of money in $100 notes laid out on the floor.
