An attempt to sell a newborn baby was stopped in the Pavlodar Region — a woman was detained immediately after giving birth while handing over the infant.

WHAT HAPPENED

A 23-year-old resident of the Turkistan Region, who was in the late stages of pregnancy, was looking for potential buyers via social networks, reports the portal Polisia.kz.

After giving birth, the woman attempted to hand over the three-day-old infant in exchange for a monetary reward of 800,000 tenge. At the moment of the handover, she was detained by police officers.

POLICE ACTION

Operatives had identified the suspect in advance and documented the alleged criminal intent. The arrest was carried out under the supervision of law enforcement authorities.

The police note that timely action prevented serious consequences for the child.

CURRENT STATUS OF THE CASE

A criminal case has been opened regarding this incident. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility (IDF).

The newborn girl is under medical supervision, and there is no threat to her life or health.

The investigation is establishing all the circumstances of the incident. A final legal assessment will be made in accordance with the law.
