In the village of Shortandy, Shortandy District, Akmola Region, the sports club «Leon» has been left without a training facility. Parents of the students stated that the children are temporarily having to train outdoors, while the administration explained the decision citing complaints and safety concerns.
WHAT THE PARENTS OF THE STUDENTS REPORTED
According to information from the Instagram account Sinegor.kz, the section had previously rented the sports hall of the district House of Culture.
«The parents claim that they paid the rent on time, yet unexpectedly received a verbal notice — the premises must be vacated by the end of the month. No official explanations or written refusal were provided to them,» the publication notes.
According to the parents, training sessions are temporarily being held outdoors, and due to weather conditions, sessions are periodically cancelled. It is also reported that 96 children train at the club, of which 21 children attend the section on a permanent basis.
The authors of the appeal fear that after the hall closes, the children may be left without the opportunity to continue training.
HOW THE AKIMAT EXPLAINED THE SITUATION
In the comments under the publication, the Akimat of Shortandy District posted an official response. The message states that the rental agreement between the Leisure Centre of the village of Shortandy and Individual Entrepreneur «Tsygankova», who conducted MMA classes, was valid until 1 May 2026 and was not extended.
According to the district authorities, the decision was made following repeated complaints from coaches at the Shortandy Children's and Youth Sports School (CYS School). The complaints concerned a lack of order and cleanliness after training sessions, as well as damage to the institution's property. In particular, it is reported that a broken door was not repaired.
Furthermore, the Akimat reported receiving a complaint from the parents of one athlete after a child sustained an injury — a broken arm bone during a training session. It is claimed that at the time of the incident, the session was allegedly conducted by the coach's spouse, who does not have a specialised physical education background or qualifications.
«In order to ensure the safety of underage athletes and the preservation of the institution's property, the administration of the Leisure Centre is not renewing the contract for the rental of the sports hall,» the statement reads.
The Akimat also noted that the Shortandy CYS School operates free sections in 10 sports.
WHY THE SITUATION SPARKED DEBATE
The publication about the closure of the section initially contained only the position of the club's parents. Later, in the comments, the Akimat of Shortandy District published an official response, presenting additional circumstances of the situation.
According to the administration's explanations, the decision not to extend the lease is linked not only to the use of the premises, but also to complaints, safety issues during training sessions, and the condition of the institution's property.
