On the Bishkek – Almaty highway near the village of Shamalgan, lorry drivers staged a race. One of the heavy goods vehicles was travelling at a speed of over 100 km/h in the left-hand lane and was trying to catch up with another lorry.
WHAT HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY
According to Centralmedia24.kz, in the published video one of the lorries is driving in the left-hand lane at a speed of more than 100 km/h and is trying to catch up with another heavy goods vehicle. The incident took place on a section of the Bishkek – Almaty highway near the village of Shamalgan.
HOW THE OFFENCES WERE DETECTED
According to the Almaty Police Department, the offences were recorded by automatic monitoring cameras. Following checks, the drivers were brought to administrative responsibility.

CONTEXT
Cases of dangerous driving on the roads have previously been recorded in various regions of Kazakhstan.
In April 2026, officers from the Astana Police Department stopped a street race on Salyk Zimanov Street. Among those involved were an 18-year-old Skoda driver and two Toyota Highlander drivers, one of whom turned out to be a minor. Administrative protocols were drawn up against all those involved, and the vehicles were placed in a municipal impound lot.
On 21 March 2026, a fatal accident occurred on Al-Farabi Avenue in Almaty. A Zeekr car crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a Mercedes. As a result of the crash, the Mercedes driver and two female passengers aged 20 and 22 died. According to the investigation's version of events, the Zeekr driver had been taking part in a street race with another vehicle. The investigation also claimed that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
On 22 June 2026, the court found Alexander Pak guilty under Part 4 of Article 345-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of traffic rules while intoxicated, resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence"). The court sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment in a minimum-security colony and banned him from driving vehicles for life.
