On the Severtsov glacier in the Almaty region, tourists from Belarus discovered human remains at an altitude of approximately 4,300 metres. A helicopter from Kazaviaspas of the Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES) flew to the discovery site to evacuate the body.

WHAT IS KNOWN
As reported by Anastasia Akhmetova on her Facebook page, her friends, tourists from Belarus, discovered human remains on the Severtsov glacier and showed her photos and video from the scene. The tourists passed the coordinates of the discovery to the 109 service, after which the information was forwarded to the emergency services.
The author of the post also noted that, according to her, reports of a body on this route had previously appeared in a report by a Russian tourist group from 2025.
WHAT THE DEPARTMENT FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS SAID
According to the Department for Emergency Situations (DES) of the Almaty region, an aircraft from Kazaviaspas flew to the Severtsov glacier. On board are rescuers from the Republican Operational Rescue Unit "Barys" and specialists from the MES Disaster Medicine Centre.
The rescuers are carrying out operations to bring the remains down from the glacier, located at an altitude of approximately 4,300 metres above sea level. After evacuation, the remains will be handed over to officers of the Police Department (PD) of the Almaty region.
WHAT WAS FOUND NEXT TO THE BODY
According to Akhmetova, a backpack containing documents was found next to the remains. It is also reported that another tourist group had previously found documents and handed them over to rescuers.
After the evacuation of the body, law enforcement agencies will have to establish the identity of the deceased. Akhmetova's post also mentions the possibility of conducting a DNA test and handing the remains over to relatives.
CONTEXT
In June 2026, the body of 37-year-old Almaty police officer Aslan Alserov, with severe thermal injuries, was discovered in the mountains of the Kegen district of the Almaty region. As part of the investigation, the involvement of the deceased's wife, who previously also worked in the internal affairs bodies, is being checked.
Later, new statements emerged in the case from the defence of the juvenile suspects. Lawyers claim that pressure may have been put on the teenagers during the investigation, and that the first interrogation of one of them took place without a defence lawyer present.
