Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed the government to raise the minimum wage (MW) from 85,000 to 110,000 tenge. The increase is planned from 1 January 2027.
WHAT THE PRESIDENT SAID
During his Address to the people of Kazakhstan on 28 October 2026, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced plans to increase the minimum wage.
“I instruct the government to raise the minimum wage to 110,000 tenge. This task must be implemented from 1 January next year,” the Head of State said.
Thus, the MW is planned to be increased by 25,000 tenge, or approximately 29.4%.
WHO WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE INCREASE
According to the President, the increase in the minimum wage should affect 1.8 million people, including more than 370,000 public sector workers.
At the same time, this is so far an instruction to the government rather than an increase that has come into force.
WHAT THE MINIMUM WAGE IS
The minimum wage is the statutory lower limit of monthly pay for fulfilling the working time norm and employment duties.
The MW currently stands at 85,000 tenge. This figure is used to protect workers from excessively low pay and is also taken into account when calculating certain social payments.
