A heavy downpour that occurred on 28 July led to the flooding of streets in Ust-Kamenogorsk. In certain parts of the city, traffic and pedestrian movement was hampered, and municipal services began pumping out rainwater.

WHAT HAPPENED

According to local media reports and information from city services, on 28 July in Ust-Kamenogorsk, sections of city streets were flooded after a thunderstorm and heavy rain. Water remained on the roadway for a long time, causing residents in some places to wade through water and vehicles to struggle with movement.

Witnesses posted videos and photos of the aftermath of the bad weather on social media. According to them, in some places cars were literally "swimming" along the roads, and some vehicles stalled in the water. Pedestrians had to remove their shoes to cross the flooded areas.

WHAT CONSEQUENCES HAVE BEEN RECORDED

After the downpour, residents found car registration plates in flooded puddles and tracked down their owners via social media and city chat groups.

In addition to flooding, the heavy rainfall reduced visibility on the roads, complicating traffic. Motorists were advised to reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance, and exercise extra caution near intersections and pedestrian crossings.

HOW RESIDENTS REACTED

On social media, residents actively shared footage of the aftermath of the bad weather. Some reported difficulties getting around the city, while others took the situation with humour. Notably, witnesses posted a video of a young man happily running through large puddles.

Users also left comments about the long-awaited cool-down after the hot weather and expressed hope that the storm drainage system would work more efficiently during the next heavy rainfall.

WHERE DRAINAGE WORK WAS CARRIED OUT

According to the akimat of Ust-Kamenogorsk, after the downpour, pumping of rainwater from flooded areas was organised. Work was carried out on Mikhaelis Street, at Ushanov Square, and in the area of the Children's Bazaar.

The statement noted that the responsible services continued to monitor the situation and carry out phased drainage of water in the city's most problematic areas.

CONTEXT

On 23 July, heavy downpours led to flooding of streets in Astana. On social media, residents posted footage of flooded roads, cars, public transport, and city infrastructure.

After the rainfall, the capital's municipal services worked in an enhanced mode. The akimat reported that the storm drainage system was handling a large volume of water, but flooding was temporarily observed in some areas. It later emerged that billions of tenge were promised for the development of the capital's storm drainage system.
