Heavy rain in Aktobe has once again worsened the drainage situation. Amid the abundant precipitation, Aqtobe Su-Energy Group JSC reported an increased load on the networks and urged residents to follow the rules for operating the engineering infrastructure.
WHAT THE SPECIALISTS FOUND
According to Aqtobe Su-Energy Group JSC, while processing requests and inspecting engineering networks, company employees recorded cases of residents unauthorisedly opening sewer manholes.
As explained by the company, the sewer networks and sewage pumping stations are not designed to receive large volumes of rainwater. This increases the load on the drainage system and pumping equipment, which could lead to network overflow.
WHAT THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES ARE
The company noted that overloading the system could cause a reverse effect. In this case, wastewater and stormwater could escape through the networks and cause flooding of residential building basements.
Open sewer manholes also pose a danger to pedestrians and vehicles.

The company is operating in enhanced mode. At the same time, according to the company, the stable operation of the drainage system also depends on residents' compliance with the rules for operating the engineering networks.
In this regard, the company urged people not to allow unauthorised opening of sewer manhole covers and not to use them for draining rainwater.
