The Government has allocated 1.4 billion tenge from the Special State Fund for the implementation of four projects to modernise water supply and wastewater systems in the Akmola Region. The funds will be directed towards upgrading communal infrastructure in the Burabay District and the city of Shchuchinsk.
WHICH PROJECTS ARE BEING FINANCED
The funding has been allocated as part of implementing the President's instructions on using returned assets for the country's socio-economic development.
In the Burabay District, the funds will be used to modernise the water supply networks serving children's health and recreation centres near Lake KATARKOL. It is noted that the upgrade of the engineering infrastructure should improve the reliability of utility services for these institutions and ensure their stable operation during periods of seasonal demand.
In Shchuchinsk, the plans include the construction and reconstruction of the fourth phase of the main water supply networks, repairs to wastewater facilities and networks, as well as the laying of intra-block sewerage.
WHAT EFFECT IS EXPECTED
The implementation of the projects will reduce the number of breakdowns in the engineering networks. In addition, the modernisation should ensure the supply of the required volumes of water and the drainage of wastewater, which will create the opportunity to connect new residential buildings, social facilities and tourist attractions.
The statement also says that the upgraded communal infrastructure will serve as the foundation for the further development of Shchuchinsk and the Burabay District.
HOW MUCH FUNDING HAS ALREADY BEEN ALLOCATED TO WATER INFRASTRUCTURE
During the period 2024–2026, funding has been approved from the Special State Fund for more than 500 social projects totalling 610 billion tenge.
Of these, 267 projects with a total value of 226.5 billion tenge have been directed towards the development and modernisation of the country's water infrastructure.
CONTEXT
Earlier, the FBRK editorial team reported on the quality of tap water in Shchuchinsk. During a check using a portable TDS meter, a mineralisation reading of 431 ppm was recorded. After enquiries were made to the relevant sanitary authorities, it emerged that Kazakhstani standards use the unit of measurement mg/l rather than ppm, with the maximum permissible total mineralisation being 1000 mg/l.
The article noted that the value obtained, when converted, complies with the current Kazakhstani standard, but falls within a range that household scales used by TDS meter manufacturers classify as water with less pleasant taste properties.
