The volume of household deposits in banks in Kazakhstan at the end of the first half of 2026 reached 30 trillion tenge for the first time. Over six months, the total amount of savings grew by 1.9 trillion tenge, or by 6.7%.
HOW THE GROWTH IN DEPOSITS WAS DISTRIBUTED
According to Finprom.kz, the volume of individual deposits increased at 14 second-tier banks (STBs).
At eight STBs, household deposits, by contrast, declined. One further bank holds no individual deposits.
The largest increase over the first half of the year was recorded by Kaspi Bank: the volume of individual deposits rose by 571.3 billion tenge, or by 8.1%, reaching 7.6 trillion tenge.
Second place went to Bank CenterCredit. By 1 July 2026, the volume of household deposits at the bank had grown by 349.4 billion tenge, or by 10.5%, to 3.7 trillion tenge.
Third place was taken by Halyk Bank, where individual deposits increased over six months by 323.7 billion tenge, or by 4.2%, to 8.1 trillion tenge.
WHICH BANKS MADE THE TOP FIVE
The top five for deposit growth also included Otkbasyp Bank with an increase of 301.7 billion tenge and ForteBank with growth of 120.6 billion tenge.
In total, the five largest banks by growth accounted for around 88% of the overall increase in household deposits in Kazakhstan over the first half of the year. This shows that the bulk of the new savings volume was concentrated among the largest participants in the banking market.
WHAT INFLUENCED THE SAVINGS TREND
Among the factors behind the growth are public confidence in large financial institutions, the level of interest rates on deposits, and the development of digital banking services.
For depositors, not only interest rates matter, but also the financial stability and reputation of the bank. At the same time, mobile applications have made it easier to open and top up deposits, transfer funds between accounts, and manage personal finances.
In particular, clients of the Kaspi ecosystem can use a current account and also open term and savings deposits. Kaspi Bank itself became the leader in absolute growth in household deposits at the end of the first half of the year.
