A minor female resident of the Abai region contacted the prosecutor's office after a meeting on child protection and personal safety. Following the investigation, the court found her stepfather guilty and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
WHAT HAPPENED
On 24 July 2025, the prosecutor's office of the Zharma district held a meeting with minors. During the event, participants were informed about issues of personal safety, the protection of children's rights, and the procedure for contacting law enforcement agencies in the event of a crime or other violations of rights.
After the meeting, a minor approached the district prosecutor's office with a statement regarding repeated unlawful actions by her stepfather.
During the interview, the girl stated that she had learned about the possibility of seeking protection thanks to the legal awareness work carried out.
WHAT DECISION DID THE COURT REACH
On the instruction of the prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation was immediately launched. The supervisory authority reported that a comprehensive, complete, and objective investigation had been ensured in the case.
The verdict was handed down by the Specialised Inter-District Criminal Court of the city of Semey.
The court found the minor's stepfather guilty and imposed a sentence of 20 years in prison. The verdict has entered into legal force.

The prosecutor's office of the Abai region called on citizens not to conceal facts of crimes against minors and to seek help from law enforcement agencies.
