Police have discovered bird carcasses in the boot of a car in the Akmola region

22 April at a checkpoint in the Tselinograd district of the Akmola region police found two bird carcasses in a car, one of which is suspected to be a rare species — the red-breasted goose, listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE CHECKPOINT

According to the press service of the police department (PD) of the Akmola region, patrol officers stopped a Hyundai Grandeur driven by a resident of the city of Kostanay.

During an inspection of the boot, two bird carcasses were found. One of them, according to preliminary information, may belong to the red-breasted goose species, which is under special state protection. Hunting this species is prohibited.

HOW THE DRIVER EXPLAINS THE SITUATION

The driver explained that the bag with the carcasses was given to him by an unknown man with a request to deliver it to another settlement. This version is currently being checked.

It was also established that the man is a hunter: a smoothbore rifle registered in his name and the corresponding permit were found in the car.

COURSE OF THE INVESTIGATION

Investigative actions are being carried out regarding the fact of illegal handling of rare and endangered animals.

Law enforcement agencies are establishing all the circumstances of the incident, including the origin of the birds and the possible involvement of other individuals.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH VIOLATIONS

The police remind that illegal harvesting and trafficking of rare animal species entails criminal liability. Citizens are urged to comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and treat wildlife with care.
