In the Aktobe region, police officers detained two groups suspected of extortion. According to the investigation, they were putting pressure on residents and business representatives, which could have led to the further spread of such practices. The operations took place in Khromtau and Aktobe.
HOW THE SUSPECTS IN KHROMTAU OPERATED
According to the portal Polisia.kz, in March, officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) carried out detentions after receiving and verifying operational information.
In the city of Khromtau, the individuals, according to the investigation, threatened and used violence against miners, demanding money. As the MIA clarified, the victims did not contact law enforcement agencies due to intimidation.
Operatives identified the circle of suspects, after which they carried out the simultaneous detention of all individuals involved. As part of the case, 20 authorised searches were conducted, during which money and other physical evidence were seized.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE GROUP IN AKTOBE
In Aktobe, according to the police, a group targeting entertainment venues was identified. The suspects, it is reported, put pressure on security staff and engaged in extortion by imposing illegal protection.
All members of the group have been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility (TDF). They are currently being checked for involvement in other similar incidents.
WHICH CASES ARE BEING INVESTIGATED
Criminal cases regarding extortion are being investigated in connection with all incidents. Additionally, a check is being conducted into episodes related to unlawful detention and deprivation of liberty.
The department emphasised that the swift operational response made it possible to halt the groups’ activities and prevent more serious consequences.
