In the Kainarbulak microdistrict on the outskirts of Shymkent, a fire broke out, resulting in the death of Maral, 39 — mother of eight children. The woman suffered severe burns and later died in hospital. Her husband and eldest son were also injured in the fire.
WHAT HAPPENED
As reported by "Channel 7", the fire occurred in the courtyard of a private house, where there was a small workshop for sewing cotton blankets and mattresses. This production provided the family's main income.
According to witnesses, the cotton first caught fire, after which the flames quickly spread and engulfed the house.
HOW THEY TRIED TO SAVE THE WOMAN
The deceased's husband, Aidos Boranbaev, said he tried to get through the fire to save his wife. According to him, the woman suffered burns to 80% of her body and died in intensive care. The man himself was also injured, suffering burns to his legs.
According to witnesses, the woman was carried out of the fire by her 17-year-old son. The teenager also suffered burns.
WHAT THE NEIGHBOURS SAID
Neighbour Yerzhan Yrysbaev reported that local residents were the first to run to help. According to him, there were about 6–7 tonnes of cotton in the yard, which burned completely.
The other seven children managed to leave the house and were not injured. After the fire, the children were outside in a state of severe stress. The eldest daughter, according to witnesses, suffered shock.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
The press service of the police department of Shymkent city reported that a criminal case has been opened into the fire under an article concerning the performance of work or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements and negligently result in the death of a person.
Police officers are currently conducting investigative measures.
THE FAMILY'S SITUATION
After the fire, the family lost their home and source of income. Five sons and three daughters were left without a mother. Relatives have taken the children in for the time being.
It is reported that the family is awaiting help from local authorities.
