Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan Sovetbek Rustambek uulu proposed introducing liability for minors who conceal their age from partners and present themselves as adults.
WHAT IS KNOWN
According to Kaktus.media, the parliamentarian stated the need to hold accountable girls who, in his words, deliberately mislead young men about their age. Rustambek uulu cited as an example situations where girls aged no older than 16 tell their partners that they are already 18.
The deputy linked such cases to criminal prosecution of young men. According to him, in such circumstances some of them receive prison sentences of 15 to 18 years.
WHAT THE DEPUTY PROPOSED
Rustambek uulu proposed drafting a corresponding bill if it is established that the minor deliberately concealed her age or provoked the situation.
At present, this is merely the deputy's proposal.
CONTEXT
In 2025, in Kazakhstan, public outcry was caused by a statement by deputy Abzal Kuspan about polygamy. After claims appeared online that the parliamentarian had allegedly advocated legalising such a practice, the deputy refuted that interpretation and stated that he regards polygamy negatively. According to him, the interview was not about supporting polygamy, but about the need to protect the rights of children born outside of official marriage.
Abzal Kuspan also referred to the provisions of the Code on Marriage and Family of the Republic of Kazakhstan enshrining the equality of children, and called for improving mechanisms for protecting their rights.
