In Kazakhstan, a ban on wheat imports has been introduced for a period of six months. The restriction applies to supplies from third countries and states within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) transported by road, water, and rail. The order comes into effect on 27 July 2026.
WHAT RESTRICTIONS HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED
According to an order from the Minister of Agriculture dated 11 July 2026, a six-month ban on importing wheat by road, water, and rail from third countries and EAEU states has been introduced in Kazakhstan.
An exception is provided for supplies transported by rail to licensed grain elevators, poultry farms, and grain-processing enterprises, as well as to JSC "National Company "Food Contract Corporation".
WHAT EXCEPTIONS ARE PROVIDED
The document stipulates that wheat imported by rail for poultry farms and grain-processing enterprises is not subject to sale on domestic or foreign markets.
Furthermore, the restrictions do not apply to transit rail transport through Kazakhstan's territory or to the movement of wheat between EAEU countries across the republic's territory.
WHEN THE ORDER TAKES EFFECT
The order from the Minister of Agriculture comes into effect on 27 July 2026. The materials do not specify the reasons for the decision to introduce these restrictions.
