The property of the convicted former head of the KNB, Karim Masimov, is set to be transferred to the Akimat of Astana for social needs.
According to the press service of LLP «Company for the Management of Returned Assets» (KUVA), on 18 April, information appeared on the state property registry portal about an electronic auction for the sale of a house with a basement floor, located in the Nura district, Karаotkel microdistrict, Yerementau Street, building 1.
The starting price of the property was 1,685,115,000 tenge. However, the management company received a request from the Akimat of Astana to transfer the property for use to meet the city's social needs.
«Given the social significance of the request and the norms of legislation, the property was removed from the electronic auction plan», the statement says.
The further use of the property will be determined in accordance with the established procedure, taking into account the interests of the local executive body.
In February, this mansion was put up for sale, but was never sold. At that time, the starting price of the property was 1.8 billion tenge, and the guarantee deposit was 117.9 million tenge.
For reference, in April 2023, Karim Masimov was sentenced to 18 years in prison for high treason, attempted forcible seizure of power, abuse of power, and exceeding official authority.
It was also reported that in March 2024 he submitted a petition for clemency addressed to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, but the head of state refused his request.
