Four people have died as a result of a road traffic accident (RTA) on the Astana — Petropavlovsk highway in the Akmola Region. Three passengers, including a 6-year-old child, died at the scene.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Police Department (PD) of the Akmola Region, the accident occurred on 14 July near the village of Zhanatalap in the Bulandy District. According to preliminary information, the driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer lost control, after which the car crashed into a road barrier and caught fire.
As a result of the incident, three passengers died at the scene, among whom was a 6-year-old child. The driver, with severe burns and injuries, was taken to hospital, where he later died.
According to available data, the deceased were members of the same family. Among them were the child's mother, the six-year-old child, and the driver's sister.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
According to the PD of the Akmola Region, a criminal case has been opened regarding the accident. Police are establishing the causes and all circumstances of the road traffic accident.
The police also urged residents not to spread unverified information until the investigation is complete.
Fatal accidents on the roads of the Akmola Region have occurred before. On 16 June, on the Astana – Atbasar – Zhaksy highway, a KamAZ truck transporting explosives collided with a Chevrolet Tracker. As a result of the RTA, two people died and two others were injured. A pre-trial investigation was launched into the incident.
Another major accident occurred on 21 June on the Astana – Korgalzhyn highway, where a Kia, a Toyota Fortuner, and a Toyota Land Cruiser collided. After the collision, both Toyota vehicles caught fire. As a result of the RTA, five people died and another five were injured. A pre-trial investigation has also been launched into this accident.
