A foreign national was detained at Almaty Airport after approximately 21 kg of cannabis was found in their luggage. The prohibited cargo was seized, and a pre-trial investigation has been initiated.
HOW THE PROHIBITED CARGO WAS DETECTED
According to the press service of the National Security Committee (NSC), on 30 May, employees of the NSC, together with police and customs authorities, as well as the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre, prevented an attempt to smuggle narcotic drugs through Almaty Airport.
During an inspection of the luggage of a foreign national who had arrived from a country in Southeast Asia, approximately 21 kg of the plant substance 'cannabis' was discovered.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE DETENTION
The prohibited cargo was seized, and the suspect was detained.
Police authorities have initiated a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Smuggling of items withdrawn from circulation or items whose circulation is restricted’).
Other information about the case is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
