On the grounds of Shelek District Hospital, a dump of medical preparations was discovered, placed in an ordinary rubbish heap. The police have launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of rules for handling medical waste.

WHAT WAS FOUND ON THE HOSPITAL GROUNDS

According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», at the temporary waste accumulation site — among ordinary rubbish — there were medicinal products of various classes. These included preparations subject to mandatory disposal and not intended for open access.

Residents of nearby houses note that such waste poses a potential danger: the preparations could fall into the hands of children, be used without observing dosages, and also pollute the environment. Moreover, according to the sanitary regulations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, medical waste is subject to strict accounting, storage, and destruction through specialised organisations.

POLICE RESPONSE

As reported by the Shelek Police Department under the Enbekshikazakh District Police Department, a pre-trial investigation file has been registered regarding this incident.

The investigation must establish who made the decision to dispose of the medicinal preparations in this manner, as well as the reasons why the current control system failed to prevent the violation.

Additionally, specialists from the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of Almaty Region were called to the site of the discovery.

SYSTEMIC NATURE

Previously, a similar violation was identified in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, East Kazakhstan Region (EKR). There, medical waste was found at a container site, including used protective equipment and documents containing personal data.

WHY SUCH CASES CAUSE CONCERN

According to the classification, medical waste is divided into several classes:

  • «A» — safe;
  • «B» — hazardous;
  • «C» — extremely hazardous;
  • «D» — toxic;
  • «E» — radioactive.

The discovered waste does not belong to the safe category and requires specialised disposal. Its placement in open areas creates a risk of access by unauthorised persons and may lead to violations of sanitary standards.
