Previously announced and subsequently refined data on the production of top-category seeds in Kazakhstan have diverged. This was highlighted by the founder of the FBK and agricultural expert Kirill Pavlov.
WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED
A publication on the official Telegram account of the Ministry of Agriculture reported that in 2025, the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Centre (NASEC) had produced over 60 thousand tonnes of top-category seeds.
This figure was noted by Kirill Pavlov, founder of the FBK and agricultural expert. On his Telegram channel ‘Kazakh Chuvash’, he pointed out that such a number raises questions given the known production volumes of specialised organisations.
WHAT THE RECALCULATION SHOWED
The head of the FBK reported that NASEC uses the indicator ‘gross seed harvest’. According to him, this approach was the basis for the previously stated figure.
As stated in the publication, the actual production volume amounted to 37.5 thousand tonnes, of which only 15.5 thousand tonnes were in demand. The remaining volume was in storage at the start of the sowing campaign.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Seed production and sales figures are directly linked to the assessment of the supply of planting material to farmers. A consistent and transparent calculation methodology is important for the market, as such data is used in planning seasonal work and analysing the efficiency of the sector.
The discrepancy between the volume produced, the gross harvest, and the quantity actually required can significantly distort the understanding of the situation in the industry.
