In Astana, a 36-year-old crane operator died after a tower crane collapsed on a construction site. The police have opened a criminal case over a breach of safety regulations.
HOW THE TRAGEDY HAPPENED
According to the Emergency Situations Department (ESD) of the city of Astana, the incident occurred on 27 August at around 16:30 at a construction site on Kazybek bi Street.
During the work, a KB-403 tower crane fell. The 36-year-old crane operator, who was in the cab, sustained injuries incompatible with life and died at the scene.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE CAUSES OF THE COLLAPSE
The ESD, together with the department of the state labour inspection committee, has set up a special commission to investigate the causes and circumstances of the equipment's collapse.
As reported by the head of the department of the state labour inspection committee of Astana, Yerlan Ismagulov, those responsible will be identified following the inspection. The materials gathered will be sent to the Police Department (PD) of the city of Astana for a procedural decision.
WHAT CASE HAS BEEN OPENED
The Police Department of the city of Astana has reported that a criminal case has been opened over a breach of safety regulations during construction work that negligently resulted in a person's death.
The sanction provides for a penalty of up to six years' imprisonment.
The investigation into the causes and circumstances of the tragedy is ongoing. The special commission is due to establish the circumstances of the equipment's collapse and identify those responsible.
