A government commission has reviewed the preliminary results of the investigation into the accident at the Zhomart mine of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP in the Ulytau region, which resulted in the deaths of seven workers.

According to the government press service, the commission established that the main cause of the accident was the accumulation and release of methane from the mine working, followed by an explosion caused by a spark from electrical equipment.

Experts also identified significant violations of industrial safety and labour protection, and determined a list of those responsible.

Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev instructed Kazakhmys Corporation LLP to eliminate the violations in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“Including measures to improve safety at the mine, the introduction of automated systems for determining gas content, video surveillance, etc.” - the statement reads.

It will be recalled that in February, a collapse of rock mass occurred at the Zhomart mine of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP in the Zhanaarkin district of the Ulytau region. The bodies of seven miners were recovered from the rubble.

On the instructions of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, a special commission was established at the scene of the tragedy to investigate the causes and provide assistance to the victims.
