The Court of Appeal in Almaty has considered an appeal in the case of blogger and lawyer Adiletkhan Moldakhan and has left unchanged the sentence imposed on him — 2 years and 6 months' imprisonment.
WHAT IS KNOWN
According to the press service of the Almaty City Court, the appellate instance left unchanged the sentence in respect of blogger and lawyer Adiletkhan Moldakhan. Previously, the court imposed on him 2 years and 6 months' imprisonment and banned him for 5 years from engaging in socio-journalistic activity.
The decision relates to a criminal case concerning the dissemination of knowingly false information. Moldakhan's actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
After the decision was announced, Moldakhan's wife burst into tears. She stated that the family had paid the victims moral damages, and expressed the view that after this her husband should have been released, reports the Telegram channel «ZTB NEWS».
CONTEXT
The criminal case was opened after Adiletkhan Moldakhan's publications about a fatal road traffic accident on Al-Farabi Avenue, which occurred in March 2026. In his publications, he put forward his own versions of what happened, claiming the alleged possible involvement of police officers in illegal races and the possible concealment of the circumstances of the accident.
The investigation considered the information disseminated to be knowingly false.
On 31 March 2026, the blogger was placed in a temporary detention facility (IVS). Later, a pre-trial investigation was launched against him into the dissemination of knowingly false information. During the court proceedings, Adiletkhan Moldakhan fully admitted his guilt.
Recall that in June 2026, the Specialised Interdistrict Criminal Court of Almaty completed its consideration of the case concerning the road traffic accident on Al-Farabi Avenue, as a result of which three people died. Alexander Pak was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.
